Star guard of the Memphis Grizzlies I’m Morant was suspended on May 14, 2023 after showing what appeared to be a gun to a live stream on social media, as seen below. Shortly after the video went viral, Grizzlies management announced that Morant, 23, was “suspended from all team activities pending a league review” in a statement posted on Twitter. The new video comes after Morant was suspended eight games by the NBA in March for conduct detrimental to the league after displaying a gun in another Instagram live video, according to The Washington Post.

In the new video, Morant can be seen in the passenger seat of a car with a group of friends as they dance to music. The camera, held by the man in the driver’s seat, zooms in on Morant as he appears to be holding a gun in his left hand and pointing it in the air. The camera quickly pans away as the video stops.

The NBA spokesperson Mike Bass said in a statement that the league “is aware of the social media post involving Ja Morant and is in the process of gathering more information,” per The Washington Post. As the incident continues to be investigated, we will learn more about Morant, below.

Ja Is A Superstar NBA Guard

Temetrius Jamel “Ja” Morant, born August 10, 1999 in South Carolina, made a name for himself in college hoops playing at Murray State. He was then snapped up in Memphis, where he signed a four-year contract worth $39.6 million, which he broke with his Instagram. In 2022, he signed a designated rookie max extension worth $192.2 million over five years.

He Flashed A Gun Before

In early March 2023, an Instagram live stream showed Morant at a Denver-area club dancing and briefly holding a gun for the camera in a video that went viral. He was suspended without pay over the incident and enrolled in a counseling program but was not charged with a crime following a police investigation.

Ja Checks Herself In A Clinic For Stress

After the Denver club’s gun video was suspended, he checked himself into a clinic for stress management. He decided to seek counseling because he believed his “stress level had become a problem” before the nightclub incident. “I was thinking [seeking help]but I was back and forth,” he said to reporters at that time, per the Washington Post. “I was very afraid to leave the team. I felt it was necessary, and it helped me a lot.”

He reportedly punched a teenager in the head

In this report The Washington Post, Morant punched a teenager in the head “12 to 13 times” during a pickup basketball game at Morant’s home. According to the report, Morant entered his home after the fight and came out with a weapon.

Ja Blames Court Issues For Playoff Miss

After the Grizzlies lost to the LA Lakers in the 2023 playoffs, Morant placed the blame, in part, on extracurricular activities. “I have to be better in my decision-making,” he told reporters after their loss. “That’s all. Off-court issues affect us as an organization. packing [need] more discipline.”
