Six people were hospitalized after being shot outside a rap concert in Eugene, Oregon on Friday night (Jan. 14), reports NPR. One of the injured victims is now in critical condition and has undergone surgery. The incident occurred at 9:30 p.m. local time in the parking lot of WOW Hall, a concert venue and non -business community center in downtown Eugene, while rappers Lil Bean and Zay Bang performed inside the venue. Pitchfork reached out to the Eugene Police Department for more information.
In a press conference, Eugene Police Chief Chris Skinner said police arrived at the scene less than three minutes after the shooting. All six victims sustained gunshot wounds. “What law enforcement found when they arrived at the scene was exactly what you would expect if six people were shot. People were just trying to get out of here, their friends were on the ground, they were trying to help, ”Skinner said.
“We believe all staff and volunteers are safe and accounted for,” WOW Hall interim Executive Director Deb Maher and Board Chair Jaci Guerena told a statement. “It hasn’t been in WOW Hall before.”
No suspects were in custody and the investigation continues. Police currently have no description of the suspect, and have asked anyone with information on the shooting or who was shot to call 541-682-5111.
