In 1999, Haruomi Hosono and his friend, the prolific musician Makoto Kubota (of The Naked Rally), released Louisiana Road, a collection of recordings inspired by the sound of New Orleans music in the 1970s. Today, this one and only collaborative album from two Japanese music legends named Harry & Mac has also been released in digital and vinyl format. The reissue comes on streaming service on June 9, with a special Record Store Day Japan 2021 “RSD Drops” limited edition vinyl coming June 12.
Louisiana Road opened with “Night Shades,” with writing by Hosono and Kubota. It features many songs written and sung by Kubota, as well as renditions of songs from elsewhere in Hosono’s discography.
