Marking its first release in 2021, Calvin Harris reveals her warmly awaited summer song “By Your Side.”
The breeze of “By Your Side” reminds listeners of much simpler times, turning back time to the silent electronic-pop sound that helped Harris get through the 2010s. Talked to the buzzing British singer-songwriter Tom Grennan, this earworm is textured with chord enhancements, warm guitar riffs, and sun -kissed soundcapes.
This bright and cheerful pop-house hybrid arrives at the perfect time as summer is fast approaching. In a video shared on Twitter yesterday, Grennan gave a poem about how “it’s the summer we’ve all been waiting for.”
As performances and music festivals continue to plot the thought-provoking scene of the COVID-19 pandemic, Harris said he has no plans to return to the stage anytime in an interview with Zane Lowe at Apple Music 1 . “It’s good to do it in the right way, but I don’t know, at the time I’m good,” Harris said.
When asked if the new single could signal an album ahead, Harris was far from cryptic. “No, not really,” he said. “I mean, I’ve been making albums since 2010. And then my albums became a collection of non-members. They became compilation albums. That’s a much more fun way to do it because, first of all, every song has to be good because it comes out a whole. And after the second, zero pressure too.No, just fun.So, no, I don’t think I’ve ever done, on this one point. But next week, I’m going to start doing one. “
“For me, it makes records that make me feel good in the hope that other people will feel good from it,” he continues. “I’m a service provider. If you want to listen to my songs and enjoy them then that’s really expensive. I never asked for anything more than me.”
