Chris Pratt’s Best Movie Performances

[ad_1]

Years ago, Chris Pratt was the Parks and Recreation guy who occasionally appeared in films like Wanted, Bride Wars, and Jennifer’s Body. Now, he’s Chris friggin’ Pratt, amazing movie star with several major blockbusters under his beltt. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 opening this week, it’s time to look back on the man’s career and point out the best Chris Pratt movie performances.

You know, when you need a little Pratt magic to accompany your third (and final?) stint as Star-Lord starring in a Marvel movie.

Jurassic World

After his breakout big-screen role in Guardians, Pratt landed another big franchise in Jurassic World in 2015. While sequels usually suck, Colin Trevorrow’s first foray into the land of dinos is a fun romp that delivers plenty of CGI-powered scenes despite a dumb script and some clunky character beats.

Pratt does his best to channel his content Indiana Jones, but the film never gave him the chance to become the Pratt we know and love. Regardless, the man makes for a convincing action hero and gets a few scenes to showcase his natural charisma. Jurassic World is far from perfect, but this creature feature is a fun, crazy summer blockbuster that’s one of Chris Pratt’s best movies.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy is typical of modern-day pop culture. In 2014, it’s weird, quirky, offbeat James Gunn the car is far from guaranteed success. Fortunately, the incredible cast of lovable characters — led by Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Michael Rooker (and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper) — elevates this early Marvel entry to in a high-flying fantasy adventure, filled with a banging soundtrack, amazing effects, and endlessly quotable dialogue.

Pratt is perfectly cast as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, who leads this motley crew across the galaxy. They encounter unforgettable characters and difficulties at every turn. It’s fun and one of the reasons the MCU has reached such astronomical heights.

The Lego Movie

Loud, obnoxious, but undeniably hilarious, The Lego Movie sometimes feels like an unrelenting sugar rush – and I mean that in a good way. This wildly imaginative animated flick tickles the funny bone, is eye-popping, and – dare I say it? – touched the heart. A stellar voice cast consisting of Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Morgan Freeman, and Will Ferrell has a blast with the material, while directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller bring the same playful sensibility that made Cloudy the there’s Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street as joy.

Unfortunately, the Lego cinematic franchise never took off the way many expected it to after this 2014 smash hit. However, there’s no denying that the original picture was an absolute blast from start to finish.

Avengers: Infinity War

Marvel’s first Infinity War, where every hero from the shared universe comes together to fight the evil titan Thanos. There’s not much else to say about this incredible blockbuster that finds amazing new ways to shock and awe throughout its massive runtime.

Pratt returns as Star-Lord, along with his fellow Guardians, and all but destroys the universe after a silly little tantrum. Yes, this is not a high point for the beloved character. It doesn’t matter. Infinity War is so kick-ass and fun on so many levels that it’s impossible not to include it on this list.

Moneyball

No, Moneyball not a Chris Pratt movie per se, but damn if it’s not the best movie he’s ever been in. Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland A’s who turns to advanced mathematics to build the perfect baseball team.

Pratt co-stars as Scott Hatteberg, a former pitcher-turned-first baseman who enjoys the film’s greatest moment when he hits a pivotal home run that keeps his team’s winning streak alive. Directed by Bennett Miller, Moneyball ranks among the best sports films ever made.
