Chubby and the Gang announced their new album, Mutt Nuts, due Aug. 27 through Partisan Records. The London punk five -piece also shares the lead single LP with, “Coming Up Tough”.
Made by Jonah Falco in Fucked Up, Mutt Nuts there are lyrics rooted in UK political issues that include staff rights, inequality, police brutality, government failure, and aggression. The sound of the album mixes influences from artists such as Hank Williams and The Bobby Fuller Four with a 50-girl group based in Brooklyn and British blue-eyed souls.
The blaming “Coming Up Tough” speaks to the failure of the government of modern London and the pipeline coming out of prison. “You made a mistake, you’re not that wrong,” frontman Charlie Manning Walker (aka Chubby Charles) shouted into the mic. “They sent you out for a long time in wrath / The world will move into your jail cell / This place is worse than hell.”
As Walker shared in a statement, the track tested how the prison system affected the life of someone close to him. He explained,
“‘ Coming Up Tough ’is about a member of my family who ended up in prison at the youngest age of over 20 years. He entered as a child and spent most of his life on the system. Where is the justice in that? You’re out and about to prove yourself in a world that’s far away from you – what moment do you have? No attempt at real rehabilitation, no empathy, a cage to forget. I want the song to feel like a snowball effect. The character is released from his house at first and it feels almost childish, but as you progress you realize the real trouble he has. And always with a problem you can’t get out. “

Mutt Nuts Chubby and the Gang’s follow-up to their 2020 debut album, Rapid Killing. In April, they released a 7-inch insert “Lightning Does Not Doubles” and “Lemons of Life”, both of which are included in the new LP.
The band will head a UK tour during November and December this year. Tickets are still valid at Ticketmaster, and you can see the full schedule below.
