Create New Habits for Your Marriage

The wear and tear of everyday life can take its toll on even the happiest of couples. That’s why marriage and family counselor Dr. Randy Schroeder says that the pursuit of daily happiness is unrealistic. The better way is to maintain constant marital satisfaction.

How? By good manners.

Dr. Schroeder has “4 daily essentials” that help create good habits in your relationship with your partner:

  1. “Goodbye, I love you.” Anyone who leaves the house every day must first say this.
  2. “Good night, I love you.” Whoever goes to sleep first has to say it.
  3. First five minutes. Every morning, create a positive atmosphere for your relationship by being kind and pleasing each other first thing. If the first 5 minutes are positive, the rest of your day is more likely to be positive.
  4. Two in twenty. Connect in a meaningful way for 2 minutes within 20 minutes to reconnect at the end of the day. This is not the time to vent your stress on each other. Focus your attention on your partner and give them a meaningful kiss and hug.
