Subtronics ’meteoric rise could have caused his infallible signature sound as well as his sharp ears. Since launching his brand with Cyclops Recordings, the Philadelphia-born has successfully signed tracks from incredible starting talents as well as well-established bass music veterans. Now his mark has once again provided another combination full of unstoppable artillery.
dubbed Planets Cyclops, the compilation features several bass music champions including TYNAN, Ace Aura, Wreckno, Jkyl & Hyde, and Chassi as well as fresh faces like eliderp, JoeB, Dr. Lobster, DDD, and more. As fans expected, the low-end combination is heavy but likes some variety. Even if the Cyclops Recordings are a much more recent print, this is the strongest display of it.
The next level of sound in TYNAN’s drum & bass smash is “Draw From The Void”. The terrific intro quickly led to a high-octane build-up, which later shocked listeners for not being able to keep up with the sound scheme. Subtronics and Ace Aura are both fired on all cylinders, as their “Resistance” collaboration is impossible not to admire. From attacking full-time samples to infusing melodic moments and bass that melt the mind, these two never go unnoticed.
The heavy weights of the industry aren’t the only ones coming up, though. Ripple’s tone “Raveification” breaks the farthest from the mold. Continuing the heavier approach taken by most songs, however, he gives the combination a fresh dose at home. Guppi’s “Ransom” is another famous addition. His unique sound scheme is what gives speed to the flow, relentlessly hitting the listeners with various vibrating sounds.
Once again, Subtronics has meticulously curated a stellar compilation that not only showcases the new but also sheds more light on its impure taste. Cyclops Recordings has simultaneously established itself as a major stop for bass music in a genre with multiple labels to choose from.
