Byrne was among the honorees at the BAM Gala, along with Spike Lee and real estate attorney Claire Wood. Gina Duncan, president of BAM, said the three have “built a community around their work,” and praised Byrne for “always exploring, always trying new things, and also thinking about how to use his work, his curiosity, and his platform to build communities that think about how we can solve some of the problems that really plague the world,” according to Daily News.
