It shows that David Lee Roth foretold this was his recent announcement of retirement 30 years ago, almost on the exact same day.
In the music video for his 1991 solo album “A Lil Ain’t Enough” Van Halen the frontman looks at a crystal ball and looks at his future.
At first, he saw a billboard that read: “Diamond Dave And THE ABSOLUTE FINAL TOUR.” Afterwards, a Delorean-esque car pulls out, and out of the suicide doors climbs an overweight, elderly Roth. The date “October 10, 2021” flashed on the screen as the paparazzi-clad spacesuit flooded the singer.
If Roth had just waited a few more days, he could have been spot-on. Last week, Diamond Dave announced that his upcoming five-day stay in Las Vegas that was his last show. He explained that health issues forced him to hang up his mic.
“I threw the shoe,” he said of Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I’m leaving.” He added that he thought he was the first Van Halen classic member to die, not Eddie Van Halen. “I thought I might be the first, frankly. Maybe I thought maybe I got the Marlboro Man. ‘Hey Ed, the mirror stuff inside might be mine.’ … And my doctors, my manager, forced me to be real to me that every time I go on stage, I risk the future. ”
The news was shocking, considering that Roth had released a new solo with John 5 that morning and just now it was announced that he would be returning for a future stay in Vegas.
Regarding the Vegas shows, Roth said: “I have a band that does what [Alex Van Halen] and I call it a ‘block,’ meaning 75 rehearsals for a show. We bring it in classic VH style. Alex and I are the only version, that’s his message. There is no other difference. No torch was passed. There is no other part of this coin. This is the classic, in your face Van Halen. ”
