De La Soul Finally Brings Classic Albums To Streaming Services, Group Confirms


From the SoulThe classic album will finally arrive on streaming services on March 3, the group said. The run of hip-hop legends from 1989 to 2001 will be released digitally via band member Maseo’s AOI label, along with Reservoir and the distribution wing of Chrysalis. The six albums are 3 feet tall and rising, De La Soul died, Buhloone Mindstate, The Stakes Are High, Official Wisdom Art: Mosaic Thumpand AOI: Bionix. “It’s been almost 20 years, but finally, we’re here,” Maseo said in a press release. Physical reissues are also set to be released on March 3.

The news comes after a false start in 2019, when De La Soul proposed that Tommy Boy’s plans to bring their classic records to streaming services involve a lucrative contract. The planned release is cancelled after a public outcry. In 2021, the band said the dispute had occurred solved after Reservoir got Tommy Boy.

De La Soul’s last album was 2016’s And Anonymous Nobody…which is their first since 2004 The Date of Milling. The 2016 album featured Little Dragon, David Byrne, Damon Albarn, Usher, and more, and featured a documentary called We’re Still Here (Now)…. In 2017, De La Soul jumped Gorillaz’s humanz track “Momentz.”
