Death Cab for Cutie releases a new live album called Live in Showbox. The 17-song album was recorded all night at the title Seattle venue in February 2020, just before the pandemic closed concert venues around the world. Live in Showbox available 24 hours through Bandcamp (for the last Bandcamp Friday). A portion of the revenue comes from Live in Showbox go to National Independent Venue Association (NIVA). An official release of the record will expire at the end of this year. Listen to “An Ending Script Movie” below.
“Like many other artists, we expect to play a lot of shows in 2020,” Death Cab said for Cutie in a statement. “To prepare for the coming year, we decided to warm up by playing a close -up, three -night stand at a venue that is close and very dear to our hearts – the Showbox in Seattle. That’s right, 2020 not as we had planned – but enjoyed three magical nights last February, and we were glad to say it was recorded. ”
In 2018, Death Cab for Cutie joined Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, Duff McKagan of Guns N ’Roses, and Macklemore of an effort to save Showbox from closing. They wrote an open letter, signed by several artists, including Sleater-Kinney, Run the Jewels, Dave Grohl, Neko Case, the xx, Fleet Foxes, and the War on Drugs. Days after the letter was sent, the Seattle City Council voted to grant temporary 79 -year -old protection.
