Dirty Honey Cover Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” on a Frozen Lake

Dirty Honey CONCEALED prince“Let’s Go Crazy” on an icy lake as part of the festivities for the NHL Winter Classic hockey game, hosted on New Year’s Day in Minneapolis.

The Los Angeles-based band is definitely not used to sub-freezing temperatures, but they’ve become a lively and inspired version of Rain Purple opener – a cover worthy of the hero town Prince himself. So that we don’t forget, Purple One held its iconic Super Bowl XLI halftime show in bad conditions back in 2007.

The NHL Winter Classic takes place every year on New Year’s Day and will battle two of the league’s teams against each other in an outdoor area. In fact, former NHL player Tyler Lassiter put Dirty Honey on TNT’s radar for the Winter Classic show.

“I learned about Dirty Honey through former NHL player Scottie Upshall and I’ve been a fan of the band ever since,” said Turner Sports ’Tyler Lassiter, who directed the clip with Craig Murray. “I already read that [singer] Marc LaBelle is a big man in hockey, and when we got the NHL deal with TNT earlier this year, my first thought was that we would do these guys at some point.

Lassiter continues: “Once we knew this concept, all the stars seemed to be aligned. We needed a band that could honestly pull off a legitimate Prince cover as well as an enthusiastic one. enough to agree to shoot a frozen lake in northern Minnesota in mid-December. The men defeated it. ”

Dirty Honey also recorded a full version of “Let’s Go Crazy” in Los Angeles at NRG Studios. That version was mixed by Chris Lord-Alge and is now available on digital platforms through Dirt Records.

The band is now set to start with a major 30 date co-headlining tour with Wolfgang Van Halen’s band Mammoth WVH later this month. We just recently talked to LaBelle and Wolfgang about the trip, called the “Young Guns” tour. Get tickets through Ticketmaster.
