Discovering the Freedom of Your Belief

We Christians often devote more time and energy to thinking about our summer vacations than to our spiritual formation. Since our salvation is rooted in the righteousness of Christ, not in ourselves, we are likely to underestimate the many scriptures that call us to seek righteousness.

Deepening our faith is not about claiming heaven but about blessing the lives of the people around us.

Author Gary Thomas is with us on our Family Broadcast Focus ”Discovering the Freedom of Your Beliefs”To describe the joy we find in practicing biblical virtues. His book, The Glorious Desire: To Be Who God Created Us, contains 14 qualities that were proven in the life of Jesus while He lived on earth. In our conversation, he made a deep dive into three:

  • Humiliation. Radical trust in God. Recognize that the root, fruit, and continuation of your Christian walk depends on the strength and grace of God.
  • Surrender. Seek to do God’s will whether you receive earthly blessings or not. In surrender we experience “peace beyond all understanding” (Phil. 4: 6).
  • Detachment. Freedom from desires other than God. It is the recognition that your deepest needs-inner peace, meaning, freedom, and fulfillment-are found only in God.

Gary said, “Our families pay the greatest amount of our anger, our pride, our selfishness, and our impatience. But if we seek holiness, they will receive the greatest good. ”
