Disney+ to Add IMAX Signature Sound, Movie List Revealed

Disney, IMAX, and DTS announced Wednesday that they will bring DTS’s IMAX signature sound to select films on the streaming service.

According to the announcement, Disney + subscribers using select devices will now have access to two exclusive expanded aspect ratios of IMAX – launching in November 2021 – as well as the IMAX signature sound of DTS, which is scheduled to launch this year.

Like their previous collaboration with IMAX, this new feature will be available on select, IMAX Enhanced certified televisions from manufacturers such as Sony and Hisense. Owners of certified AV receivers from manufacturers such as Denon, Marantz, and JBL can also use the new launch feature as well. The new function will work with all IMAX Enhanced titles currently on Disney+, with more titles to be announced in the future.

Currently, the full list of Disney+’s IMAX Enhanced titles includes:

  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (February 1, 2023)
  • Black Panther
  • Thor: Love and Thunder
  • Doctor Strange
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  • Black Widow
  • Eternals
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
  • Iron Man
  • Captain America: Civil War
  • Thor: Ragnarok
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp
  • Captain Marvel
  • Avengers: Infinity War
  • Avengers: Endgame
  • Pixar’s Lightyear

In a statement on the future of their collaborations, Senior Vice President and General Manager of IMAX Vikram Arumilli said that the company is “excited” to bring more cinematic experiences to viewers at home, and challenged that “more titles” will be announced soon.
