Dolly Parton Rejects Presidential Medal of Freedom From Biden

Dolly Parton popular (twice!) REFUSES an invitation to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Donald Trump. It turns out that he also turned down a similar offer from President Joe Biden.

The Now The show’s Jacob Soboroff recently interviewed Parton to promote her upcoming album Rock star. While the singer did not discuss his decision not to accept the Presidential Medal of Freedom on camera, Soborof said The Today Show colleagues that it stems from his desire not to associate with any particular party. “I don’t even want to look partisan in any way,” he recalled saying.

Party DOING discuss his distrust of the modern political system in general, however. Soborof then read an unusually biting lyric from Parton’s new song “The World is on Fire” (“Greedy politicians of today and of the past/ They won’t know the truth if it bites the ass”), he asks which politicians the song is about.

“All of them! Any of them!” Parton replied. “I don’t think any of them are trying very hard. I’m sure they’re all trying, but I really just think that, usually, they’re more concerned about their party than the people. If we just do what we feel is right, instead of who will lose, who will win it, who will look better when they do it, rather than working from the heart.

Although she remains mum on her partisan affiliation (if she has one), “World on Fire” still marks Parton’s most political statement to date.
