Despite providing source material for one of the Daft PunkThe biggest hit, actor Eddie Johns reportedly spent decades unpaid for his work.
That could change soon, however, as news of the legendary duo’s breakup has sparked a renewed push to credit Johns, starting with Johns case manager Alyssa Cash.
Johns, who previously spent more than a decade shuffling the homeless, has his original song “Lots of Spell On You“sampled by Daft Punk to produce” One More Time. “” He showed me his album cover and when I saw the video of it talking about how Daft Punk sampled it, it was like a lightbulb was gone, “Cash recalls.” That’s Eddie, this is his song. ‘”
the Los Angeles Times further investigated and confirmed that Daft Punk, in fact, paid royalties to the owner of the rights to “Better Spell On You” two years every year for many years. As it turned out, French publishing company GM Musipro acquired the rights in 1995, and according to the company’s founder Georges Mary, they have not been in contact with Johns since then.
This story may have a happy ending, though, as Mary tells of time he would look closely at the matter and let Johns know what was owed to him.
Johns, now 70 years old, is thinking about his legacy and wants to give something meaningful to his daughter. Johns is not currently listed as a songwriter on “A Lot of Hours” and went on to say that he finally wants to see some credit.
