Elon Musk was issued a subpoena in the US Virgin Islands to accuse it JPMorgan Chase & Co. who knowingly benefited from Jeffrey Epstein’s sex-trafficking.
The US territory said in court papers that it has reason to believe that Epstein may have referred or attempted to refer Musk to JPMorgan as a client. Many other billionaires, including Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, were also issued a subpoena by the USVI.
Musk and his attorney Alex Spiro did not immediately respond to questions about the subpoena via email.
The USVI on Monday asked the judge presiding over the case to allow an alternative method of serving the subpoena on April 28 on Musk. The territory said it made good-faith efforts to obtain an address for Musk, including hiring private investigators, but was unable to find one.
The territory said it also tried to serve Musk in the offices of Tesla Inc. The USVI sought permission to serve the subpoena on Tesla itself.
The USVI subpoena seeks documents showing communications or meetings between Musk and JPMorgan or Musk and Epstein related to the two men’s bank accounts. It also sought from Musk any documents “regarding Epstein’s involvement in human trafficking” or about the fees the Tesla CEO paid to Epstein or JPMorgan in connection with his bank accounts.
