Luke Skywalker famously avoided being tempted on the dark side and helped turn Darth Vader against his master and kill Emperor Palpatine in Return to the Jedi. However, Rise to Skywalker revealed that Palpatine did not die and hid the Exegol plotting the Last Order. It is also revealed that he controls Supreme Leader Snoke and uses him as a conduit to convince Kylo Ren to join the Dark Side. Just recently Star Wars The comics dig deep into Palpatine’s time at Exegol and the establishment of the Sith fleet used in the final RoS battle. The new information also provides insight into what Palpatine fears about Luke.
Star Wars: Darth Vader # 11 by Greg Pak, Raffaele Ienco, Neeraj Menon, and VC’s Joe Caramagna who showed Vader searching for answers in Exegol, which revealed Palpatine’s “scalpel of creation”. Including his experiments to clone Luke’s hand, which Palpatine seems to have recovered after it was cut, as well as several “Snoke” bodies. In a past Star Wars: Rise of Kylo Ren comics by Charles Soule, and Will Sliney, and Guru -eFX, Snoke revealed that he was afraid of Skywalker – admittedly, “She’s earned my respect … and my fear. She’s not weak. She’s embarrassed.” Clearly, Palpatine has exhausted all his options to prepare against Luke.
on Star Wars: Ascension of the Skywalker, Palpatine proves that Snoke is an artificial creature where he tempts Kylo Ren to the Dark Side. In the movie, Palpatine insists, “My son, make me Snoke. I’m every one you hear inside your head.” In this context, it’s hard to imagine Snoke’s words anything other than Palpatine’s true thoughts on the Jedi that caused his downfall.
It makes sense Palpatine was scared of Luke afterwards Return to the Jedi. He successfully convinces Darth Vader, his most famous warrior, to turn against him. It’s weird that Palpatine – even in his Snoke -like appearance – would do claim she was afraid of him, though. Of course, the fear is just the beginning of the path to the Dark Side, and Palpatine may also be targeting a young Ben Solo to see Luke as an opponent rather than a friend or mentor. Regardless, Palpatine’s fears led to several attempts to stop Luke Skywalker, which ended with Luke’s death while confronting Ben Solo. However, his reign will end if they are Ben and Rey – inspired by Luke Skywalker – he was killed for good and the Last Order was stopped – testifies Emperor Palpatine Luke was afraid for good reason.
