The new documentary Rise in Phoenix, which focuses on the life and career of Evan Rachel Wood, premiered tonight at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. This is the first part of a two -part documentary, and Oscar -nominated director Amy Berg has made it clear that it’s a work in progress. The movie outlines the allegations of abuse Wood made against Marilyn Manson last year. It also includes new allegations from Wood.

In the film, Wood mentions the music video for Manson’s 2007 single “Heart -Shaped Mirrors (When the Heart Guides the Hand).” He starred in the video with Manson; the singer said the song was inspired by Wood. “It wasn’t like I thought it was going to happen,” Wood recalls being on the set of the video. “We do things that aren’t what I’m given.” He continued:

“We were talking about a simulated sex scene, but when the cameras were working, he started to get into me really. I never agreed with that. I’m a professional actor, I’ve done it my whole life, I haven’t been to an unprofessional set in my life until now.It was completely chaotic, and I didn’t feel safe.No one was watching me.It was a really traumatizing video filming experience .I didn’t know how to advocate for myself or know how to refuse because I was conditioned and trained to never be a soldier again.I felt disgusted and as if I had done something shameful, and knew- I thought the crew was uncomfortable and didn’t know what to do.I was forced into a commercial sex act under false pretense. When the first crime was committed against me and me raped by camera.

Throughout the first part of Rise in Phoenix, Wood discussed many elements of his life with Manson — including allegations that he separated him from his family and abused him while hanging out. Pitchfork reached out to Manson’s representatives.

Rise in Phoenix will air on HBO in March. According to an earlier report from different, Wood and Berg worked on the project in secret. Before the Rise in Phoenix, Berg has made documentaries about sexual abuse perpetrated by the Catholic Church and against child actors, in addition to the HBO series The Case Against Adnan Syed.
