What would you do if you prayed for a miracle… and the miracle never came?
Jason Hague faced that situation after giving birth to his son Jack. Like any father, Jason has dreams for his relationship with his son – the games they play, the conversations they have.
About two years of age, Jack began to stop developing. He had difficulty walking. He lost his vocabulary and his ability to communicate. Jack was soon diagnosed with autism, and everything in Jason’s family changed.
Jason cries out for a miracle, praying that Jack’s ability to regain his ability to connect with family and share in all the ways Jason first wished for Jack – conversations about sport, about Star Wars, about God.
The miracle never came.
And in the absence of a miracle came confusion and doubt. Jason wrestled with God for some time until he was finally finished. When he did, his prayers changed. Instead of praying that Jack would connect with the family in a way that was meaningful to them, he began to pray that Jack would connect with the family in a way that was meaningful to them. she.
