Godsmack Singer Sully Erna Apparently Once Dated Lady Gaga

One sang about “Bad Religion,” the other sang about “Bad Romance.” According to Godhead drummer Shannon Larkin, frontman Sully Erna once dated the pop superstar Lady Gaga.

While showing the 2020’d podcast, Larkin was asked by the host (who seemed to have some inside knowledge) about Erna and Gaga’s relationship. “I don’t think so [it’s] secret,” Larkin replied. “I don’t think Sully will be upset if people find out he’s dating Lady Gaga. I mean, she’s hot, and she’s mega talented.”

The drummer went on to say that, unlike other rock stars, Erna did not go out of her way to announce the relationship. “He’s not Tommy Lee or anything, or whoever the guy is now… What I mean by that is — Travis Barker, Tommy Lee, whatever — guys who have girlfriends in public who are also famous. But they’re different from Sully. Sully is from the East Coast. He’s like me [and other Godsmack members] Tony [Rombola] and Robbie [Merrill] — we’re from the East Coast.”

Larkin continues to go off on a tangent, distinguishing some rock icons, and how they present themselves to the public. “LA bands and West Coast dudes, they’re a lot louder, maybe, and they’re rock stars and there’s more David Lee Roth than — I don’t know — Eddie Vedder,” Larkin said. “You know what I mean? We’re more Eddie Vedder, even though we’re East Coast. We might be better than Eddie. He will appear wearing an army jacket. You don’t even know him. ‘Oh my God. That’s Eddie Vedder.’ So we are between them and the dudes with attractive girls on their arms.

He eventually reaffirmed Erna’s relationship with Gaga, saying, “So, is he dating her? Yes. But has he told anyone? No — except his friends and us . The band, we know… It’s a short thing, though.”

There isn’t much on the internet that connects Erna to Gaga, except one 2017 tweet by Godsmack singer praising the pop star’s Super Bowl performance: “This girl is the real deal! @ladygaga one of the best sb performance I’ve ever seen. #respect.”

Godsmack is getting ready to release their new album, Light up the Heavens, which arrives on February 24. The LP featured the singles “You and I” and “Surrender,” the latter of which hit No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock airplay chart.
