Half Waif’s Portraits EP Turns His Old Songs Into Piano Ballads

Half Waif goes back to basics now with a surprise release EP called Pictures. The four -track project saw band Nandi Rose take two tracks each from her previous two full -length albums – 2020’s the Guardian and last year Mythopoetics -and do it again into very beautiful piano pieces.

Throughout her discography under her Half Waif moniker, Rose has blended her classical training with elements of pop and indie rock. Pictures is, in a sense, a return to form for him, allowing him to revisit his songs “Swimmer,” “My Best Self,” “Fortress,” and “Ordinary Talk” through a new lens.

“I came into music and writing songs when I was a kid, singing on the piano,” Rose explained in a press release. “Over the years, I’ve learned to create layered arrangements around songs, which sometimes feel like a kind of armor. The return of these vocal and piano arrangements feels even more weak for me.

The musician continues: “There is nothing to hide behind. But it seemed to go home too, an appointment of my hometown. In this form, I see the songs from a new angle-as if we met again after we grew up. Sometimes we can say a lot less. Stream Half Waif’s Pictures EP via Apple Music or Spotify below.

In July, Rose spoke consequences WRECKAGE Mythopoetics track-by-track.
