Here’s what the 2023 storms will be named

Forecasters have not yet released their forecast for whether the 2023 hurricane season will be a strong one, but they, at least, agree on what to call the hurricanes.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) issued a list of 21 names for Atlantic hurricane season, skip the letters that usually have little names associated with them (Q, U, X, Y and Z). This follows news earlier this year that the WMO Hurricane Committee has retired Fiona and Ian from the list of potential names.

The list of typhoon names is usually repeated every six years. Names are retired if they are too offensive or fatal. Since 2017 was an active year, four names from the list – Harvey, Irma, Mária and Nate – everything has been deleted.

The hurricane season starts on June 1 and lasts until the end of November.

While the official 2023 hurricane season forecast won’t be released for a while, many are hoping this year will be calmer than the last few child growth resulting in higher temperatures across the country, but fewer storms in the Atlantic.

Here are the names of the 2023 storms:

  • Arlene
  • Bret
  • Cindy
  • It’s Don
  • Emily
  • Franklin
  • accomplished
  • Harold
  • hurry up
  • JOSÉ
  • Katia
  • Lee
  • Margot
  • Nigel
  • Ophelia
  • Philippe
  • Rina
  • Sean
  • Tammy
  • Vince
  • Whitney

On the rare occasion that we see more than 21 named storms during a hurricane season (which last happened in 2020), the next tropical event will be designated a alternative list of namesinstead of Greek letters.
