Between AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max, Apple has been releasing a lot of audio gear over the years. Here’s a quick look at the lineup so far.
Apple released five different generations of AirPods on three separate lines, explaining that the company is serious about its presence in the consumer audio space. AirPods have been available since late 2016, and in the years since, Apple has made some small (and rapid) upgrades to push the product line forward.
Wireless earbuds will be everywhere in 2022, and in all the years since the first AirPods hit the scene, Apple’s earbud lineup still remains one of the options on the go. They may not have the best audio quality and battery life compared to other earbuds, but it doesn’t matter how well AirPods work in the Apple ecosystem. Between fast pairing, seamless device transfer, and reliable connectivity, the experience of using AirPods on other Apple gadgets have not been matched.
The story of AirPods began in September 2016 when Apple launches the first generation AirPods. The first generation AirPods remained for a long time, but after March 2019, they were replaced by AirPods 2. AirPods 2 remained the choice of AirPods for several years – even if they were finally replaced by AirPods 3 in October 2021 Along with its standard AirPods, Apple also launched AirPods Pro in October 2019 and AirPods Max in December 2020.
These are the Main Differences Between Generations of AirPods
In the case of AirPods 1 vs. AirPods 2, Apple offers small improvements to speaker and microphone quality, longer battery life, faster device transfer, and voice-activation feature for Siri access. The AirPods 3 is where things get really exciting. The third generation introduces a new design with shorter handles and a wider case – unlike the AirPods Pro. Compared to the AirPods 2, the AirPods 3 also adds spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, sweat / water resistance, longer battery life, and a MagSafe-compatible charging case.
Even if they are far from the latest AirPods these days, the AirPods Pro remains the most in-ear AirPods on the market. The core experience is very similar to the AirPods 3, but the AirPods Pro is much better. They are great to listen to, has active noise cancellation, and with customized ear tips. It’s a very good overall package, even if the $ 249 asking price may be a deterrent to some shoppers. AirPods 3 is cheaper at $ 179, or people can still buy AirPods 2 at $ 129.
And, last but not least, there are AirPods Max. The AirPods Max is technically in the same family as the AirPods and AirPods Pro, but it’s a different product outside of the name. If AirPods and AirPods Pro are earbuds, the AirPods Max takes the form of over-ear headphones. They have very good sound, skill, and features, but the much higher price of $ 549 should keep most shoppers with AirPods or AirPods Pro.
