Actor Dave Bautista is very open to the fact that the future Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the last time he plays the role of Drax the Destroyer. In a recent interview with GQBautista elaborated more on why he left that role.
Speaking as part of Bautista’s recent profile, the actor talked about how he got the role, and how excited he was that he ended up on the road and crying because of it. “I had to pull over because I was crying so much,” Bautista said. “I immediately went back and went into my house shaking to tell my wife I got the paper, and we both stood there scared.”
However, despite Bautista’s great love for the character, he feels a little “relieved” that he has finished the character. According to Bautista, it is not always easy to carry that role, because the makeup process to become Drax is laborious. Bautista also said that he wasn’t sure if he wanted Drax to be the only one he knew.
“I am very grateful to Drax. I love him,” he said. “But there is relief [that it’s over]. Not everything is beautiful. Playing that role is difficult. The makeup process wears me down. And I don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy – it’s a silly show, and I want to do more dramatic things.
In previous discussions about the character, Bautista has also mentioned how other factors, including his age, made him decide he was done with Drax. In a series of tweets from 2021, Bautista joked that his muscles will start to weaken soon, and he won’t be able to do the character anymore.
“Drax isn’t going anywhere,” Bautista said Twitter. “This woman is not to be played with anymore! In time [Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3] I’m going out at 54 years old for gods sake! I expect everyone to start fainting any second now. “
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to air on May 5, 2023.
