“David basically decided he wasn’t interested in repeating the Niles show,” Grammer said People. Fortunately, however, the defeat forced the Frasier the writers think of a more interesting plot for its main character than a stale cast reunion. “In a very funny way, it just took us to a new place, which is exactly what we wanted to do, which was a third act of Frasier,” Grammer said. “It’s a whole new life for him.”
Frasier ran for 11 seasons from 1993 to 2004. When the sitcom ended, Hyde Pierce continued to work in theater, and most recently appeared in the HBO Max series Julia. In an interview in June of VULTURES, the actor looked back Frasier happy, which offers a surprisingly level-headed view of whether the reboot worked or not.
“That whole time in my life, the writing of the movies, the actors that I’ve worked with — all of that has been very important to me. And I’m never going to dismiss that in a way that can just say, ‘Oh, no, thank you. I won’t do that again.’ It’s very precious to me,” Hyde Pierce said. “But at the same time, because it’s so precious to me, I’m not going to do it just to do it. And I think it can be done without me, too – finding a new stories to tell, all the same Frasier done afterwards Cheers. They didn’t bring the Cheers gang to create a new show. They come from time to time and that’s a blast, but something else needs to be said, and it needs to be said in a different way. And maybe they’ll find that and get me into it, or maybe they’ll find it and they don’t need to get me into it.
Essays for Frasier reboot, which will air on Paramount +, will begin in February. New episodes from writers Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life in Pieces), and will describe the main character of a new city. “He’s our brave little soldier who’s moving on with life, looking for new challenges and a new love and new people and a new town and stuff,” Grammer said. “I’m very happy about it, and we will definitely always honor the past. We must honor the fact that John Mahoney is dead and that Martin is no longer with us. We’ll deal with that for sure. “
