Speaking on a recent appearance on the Phase Zero podcast, Gunn explained that, while Nova is an iconic hero, he’s too big a character to include in a film that looks and feels so different. Also, Gunn said he didn’t want to have too many people in the film.

“He’s got such a big personality, and he’s like … I don’t want to … From the beginning, when I got on board Guardians, I don’t want to have two people,” Gunn said. “I wanted to have a person to be surrounded by this world of aliens, and then we realized slowly that all these characters are their kind; they are the only people for them, you know?”

Meanwhile Nova probably won’t show up any time soon Guardians of the Galaxy projects, he will appear in the MCU at some point. Marvel Studios has announced that a project named after the character is currently in development, so fans hoping to see the character come to the MCU probably won’t have to wait much longer.
