Jeff Parker and New Breed shared a cover of David Bowie’s 1972 song “Soul Love.” Their version of the track features Jeff’s daughter Ruby Parker, and will appear on Bowie’s upcoming tribute album Modern Love. Listen to their version of “Soul Love” below.
“Soul Love” features Bowie’s classic album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Modern Love will come out May 28 via the British label BBE Music. The project was created to showcase Bowie’s connection to the soul, R&B, jazz, funk, and gospel sounds that influenced his own work. These include the caps of the Negro Ice Age, Khruangbin, OUR DAY, Meshell Ndegeocello, and many more.
“Bowie’s career has gone through a lot of different stages because he’s always been looking forward to and trying new things,” Jeff Parker said in a press release. “Above all, he’s an artist and an innovator. I was attracted to ‘Soul Love’ as soon as I heard it; Ruby and I were going through Bowie’s muse when we focused on our to do so, trying to keep his experimental, but attainable, spirit. ”
