In the most recent episode titled “Look Up Child,” it was revealed Jesse Williams proceeded from his role as Dr. Jackson Avery.

Anatomy in Gray executive producer and showrunner Krista Vernoff said in a statement to E! News, “Jesse Williams is an incredible artist and activist. Watching his evolution over the past 11 years both on screen and off the beaten track is a real gift.”

“Jesse brought so much heart, depth of care, and so much understanding to his work,” Krista continued. “We miss Jesse so much and we miss Jackson Avery – who has played perfectly for many years.”

Jesse is the latest actor to leave Anatomy in Gray. This season is seen Giacomo Giannottithe character Andrew DeLuca, and Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) girlfriend, dies after being stabbed by an attempted kidnapper in the crossover episode of Station 19 and Anatomy in Gray.

Last January also marked the departure of Justin Chambers‘Dr. Alex Karev. At the time, Justin said he really was leaving the show after 16 seasons to “diversify my acting roles and career choices.”
