Jude Law Wears Custom Poop-Scented Perfume to Court Henry VIII

Jude Law made a stink on the set of his upcoming film Firebrand by wearing custom poop-scented perfume to recreate what Henry VIII supposedly smelled like.

“I’ve read many interesting accounts that you can smell Henry three rooms away. His leg was rotting so badly,” said Law during the press conference for the movie at the Cannes Film Festival (via different). “He covered it with rose oil. I thought it would have a big effect when I smelled it.

For authenticity, Law sought out a perfume specialist and tried to recreate the scent of the former King of England, which partially came from the leg ulcers he suffered in his last years. “He makes beautiful smells, and he makes terrible smells too. He has somehow created this wonderful mixture of blood, filth, and sweat.”

Although Law at first “used it very subtly,” he eventually overstepped, and “it turned into a spray-fest.” The film’s director Karim Aïnouz confirmed how horrible it smelled, saying it was “terrible” when Law walked on set.

Firebrand based on the 2013 novel by Elizabeth Fremantle Queen’s Gambit. Alicia Vikander stars opposite Law as Katherine Parr, the sixth and final wife of Henry VIII. The film debuted at Cannes on Sunday to an eight-minute standing ovation.

Law also used the method while playing Captain Hook recently Peter Pan and Wendy by not breaking character during filming and acting “scary and evil” with child actors. To make up for it, he rented an ice cream van when the production was finished and it was driven to the set.
