This week, director Todd Phillips showed Joker: Madness for Two outside the New York State Supreme Court Building in Manhattan. The dramatic backdrop provides our first glimpse Lady Gaga fully dressed as Harley Quinn.
Former Director Phillips shared a photo of Gaga’s Joker and Joaquin Phoenix together, but the photo appears before Dr. Harleen Quinzel goes rogue and falls in love with her patient. In new images from the shooting, Gaga, dressed in Harley Quinn’s classic red and black and decked out in clown makeup, exits the New York County Courthouse to a sea of police and onlookers.
The film was reportedly picked up after the final events of 2019 Joker, where the titular villain continues a violent crusade without Gotham City, so it would make sense if Gaga’s Harley Quinn visits her court partner. (In a strange twist of fate, Saturday’s filming location happened to be the same courthouse where a grand jury currently under consideration a criminal indictment of Donald Trump.) Joker: Madness for Two is set to premiere on October 4th, 2024. According to reportsthe sequel will be presented in the style of a musical.
Back in November 2019, Joker became the most profitable comic book movie of all time (and the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever), leading Warner Bros. to fast track a sequel with Phoenix, Phillips, and screenwriter Scott Silver all returning.
