Lavender Country– widely recognized as the first openly gay country artist — released his sophomore album Blackberry Rose and Other Songs and Sorrow From Lavender Country on Feb. 18 through Don Giovanni. Today, Lavender Country shared a new version of the song “I Can’t Shake the Stranger Out of You.” Listen to it below.
In 2019, Lavender Country released a small run of Blackberry Rose CD albums, sold at concerts. The upcoming edition of the album marks the first wide release supported by a single label. (Previously shared digital versions of the 2019 release have since been removed from group streaming.) The new version of the album will include re-recorded songs as well as an updated tracklist, which you can be found below.
In 2020, “I Can’t Shake the Stranger from You”. covered by Drag Race by RuPaul contestant Trixie Mattel on the album Barbara. The updated version of the Lavender Country track is set in Nashville with the entire LC band.
Lavender Country was led by principal songwriter Patrick Haggerty, who released his debut, self-titled LP under the moniker in 1973. Back in 2014, it was reissued on a larger scale than the first release of this 1,000 copies.
