Less than a month since the pre-production of Superman: Legacy officially started, The Ballot brings word that writer-director James Gunn has managed to submit the first draft of the DC Studios movie, a week before the Writers’ Guild of America releases a writers strike. The outlet’s sources noted that the WGA strike will not affect the current development of Superman: Legacy, as Gunn is currently meeting with talent for the casting of the movie.
What is Superman: Legacy About?
Superman: Legacy will be part of DC Studios’ first slate for the rebooted DC Universe called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The film will be written and directed by Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad filmmaker James Gunn, who was hired to be co-CEO of DC Studios in November 2022. It will show a new Superman, younger than Henry Cavill’s version. However, the project was not created as an origin story.
“Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Production is expected to begin in early 2024, on track for a currently scheduled 2025 theatrical release.
