Now that it’s 2022, the usual statues will no longer cut it. Case in point: a new statue of LL Cool J who recently grew up with the rapper’s native Queens, New York is complete with a solar-powered audio setup that plays his music.

The LL statue, which lives in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, was erected by Sherwin Banfield, the Queens-raised sculptor who once remembered Phife Dawg, Prodigy, Jam Master Jay at the Queens Public Library in 2019.

LL’s bronze bust – adorned with his branded ’90s bucket hat and chain, natural – sits in a sun -powered gold -colored boombox. The side of the statue reads the anonymous quote: “If a task is once started, don’t leave until it’s finished. Work can be big or small, do it well or not at all.”

“Using traditional clay modeling techniques and multiple reference photographs, I did my artistic translation of LL, a collaboration of surface stages that emerged from an anatomical foundation,” Banfield wrote. about the Instagram project. “Using my years of lessons studying ancient Kemetic statues, masters of the Greco Roman and Italian Renaissance, I try to model the essence, energy, strength, sensitivity and determination of LL in this photo bust. “

The LL man couldn’t contain his excitement, sharing a series of photos of the statue on Instagram with the caption: “Anything is possible.”
