Macbeth Tragedy Gets Trailer Style Ahead of Apple TV+ Premiere: Watch

The Tragedy of Macbeth, Joel Coen’s new Shakespeare adaptation starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand, premieres of Apple TV+ on Jan. 14. In anticipation, a new trailer has been revealed and can be seen below.

Written and directed by Coen, The Tragedy of Macbeth fully shot on sound stage and in black-and-white. The cast also includes Corey Hawkins, Moses Ingram, and Ralph Ineson.

The production of A24 and IFC was initially premiered at the 2021 New York Film Festival in September before receiving a limited screening at the Christmas theater. It will be available exclusively on Apple TV + starting January 14th.

In a review with consequences, Jesse Hassenger praised the film’s outstanding visual and titanic performances from Washington and McDormand as Lord and Lady Macbeth. “Visually speaking… Coen’s version of Macbeth is a cunning, interesting hybrid of a theatrical sensibility and a cinematic interpretation, shot in ghostly monochrome, ”Hassenger wrote.“ The film is stagy in the sense that it is made on an old soundstage, which is there is a deliberate sense of agility. However, it will move beyond the proscenium early and often, putting a darker shade on the already dark material. When Lord and Lady Macbeth plotted the shadows to assassinate King Duncan, they plotted literal shadows.
