Mark Hamill honors Carrie Fisher at the Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony

Star Wars Fans are celebrating a particularly special May 4 this year when Carrie Fisher eventually given his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Before the late icon’s daughter, Billie Lourd, gave a moving speech, Mark Hamill opened the ceremony with his own loving words about Fisher.

Hamill began his remarks by recalling that he met Fisher for the first time when he was 24 and she was 19. He did not expect much from the actor given his age, but he quickly realized that “he is beautiful very, very funny, very adorable. , very wise beyond his years…And brutally frank.” From there, he turned to a note he wrote about Fisher shortly after he passed death in 2016.

“Carrie is one of a kind that belongs to everyone, whether we like it or not,” Hamill said. “He ours princess, dammit, and the actress who played her blurred into a beautiful, fearlessly independent, fiercely funny, directing woman who took our collective breath away. Determined and strong, but with a weakness that makes you root for her and want her to succeed and be happy. He has played an important role in my professional and personal life. Both would be very empty without him. “

Hamill continued, “He’s a handful? Is he high maintenance? No doubt. But the whole thing would have been more confusing and less interesting if he hadn’t been the friend he used to be. I will never stop missing him, but I am very thankful that we have him as long as we do. I am grateful for my beloved space twin’s humor, wit, kindness, and even the bratty, self-indulgent crap that has driven me crazy over the years. So thank you, Carrie. I love you.” Watch Hamill’s full comments below, and be sure to stick to the clip to see Lourd’s speech as well.

Fisher’s Walk of Fame ceremony was marred by controversy earlier this week when the actor’s siblings revealed that Lourd did not invite them to the event. Lourd confirmed the accusation and explained his decision was based on his mother’s brothers “capitalizing” on her death by creating press and writing books about Fisher without Lourd’s knowledge.

“I know they did it through the press,” Lourd said. “They never consulted me or considered how this would affect our relationship.”
