Marvel Dropped The Ball on Drax’s Destroyer Side

When The Guardians of the Galaxy originally launched, Dave Bautista’s Drax became an instant fan-favorite character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even if fans love him, Drax doesn’t have a backstory most of his time on screen, something Bautista feels like he never had a chance.

Speaking in a conversation with Tigbangi, Bautista was asked about his leap into Hollywood and his launch as Drax. While the actor says the move changed his life, in his mind Marvel thought “the ball fell” on Drax’s review.

“That role changed the course of my life. It will always be special to me. Now that I have four films on… I really want them to invest more in Drax,” Bautista said. “Because of that. I think Drax has more to say. I think Drax has an interesting backstory where they drop the ball. That has nothing to do with surprise. They have their slate, I know what they’re aiming for, that’s what they’re outlining. But man, I think they really miss the Drax ball. He has a good backstory. ”

Bautista goes on to say that he feels they miss exploring more of Drax because they dig so much into the comedic aspects of his character.

“Selfishly, as a performer, that would have given me a chance to show different aspects of Drax, emotionally. And physically as well. Because, if you notice, Drax, even though he looks like a badass, is looked at you him and he can be scary, but Drax kicks his ass more than any other Marvel character … The whole “Destroyer” thing they just threw out the window… People really love the comedic part in Drax they pointed that out, after they tapped it hard, then they dug a hole in it.We longed for a big boat of that character and I don’t think it will ever come back. But I’m just excited to finish it whole journey. ”
