Remastered by Warner Bros. Discovery’s animated Superman short film series by Max Fleischer will be released digitally in HD and Blu-ray next month.
From May 16, 2023, Max Fleischer’s Superman 1941-1943 collects all 17 of the cartoonist’s iconic Superman shorts, remastered from the original 35mm source film elements.
Along with the 17 films, several bonus features are also set to be added to the collection, including three featurettes, all of which examine the making of Fleischer’s series or look back at Superman and the many characters he introduced.
The films, originally released in 1941, were the first animated look at the now legendary superhero, which had just been released in Action Comics just three years earlier, in 1938. Fleischer’s series helped to increase the popularity of Superman even more and added some aspects. of his canon, including catchphrases and key attributes.
When the collection launches on May 16, 2023, it will be available in digital HD from Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, Vudu, and others, and will cost $14.99. The Blu-ray collection, available at major online and in-store retailers, will retail for $33.99.
