Michael Jackson’s Connection in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Confirmed by Yuji Naka

The rumors and or facts surrounding Michael Jackson’s involvement in Sonic the Hedgehog 3The soundtrack has circulated on the internet since the early days of online forums and webrings. Many confirmations have come and gone, but no one will stay like the game producer tweeting direct proof. That’s exactly what happened earlier today when Yuji Naka expressed his confusion about the modified soundtrack for Sonic 3 found inside Origins of Sonic.

Naka, who no longer works at Sega, took over Origins like many Blue Blur fans, so his tweets about the missing music seem like real confusion about the situation. Many in the gaming community are surprised that Naka has confirmed something that has been the subject of much speculation over the years.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is the missing piece in many of Sega’s Genesis retrospectives over the years. There is no official reason for the removal, but many suspect that the music Jackson wrote was the primary reason. With Sonic 3 returned to the newly released Origins and features prototype tracks that will also appear on the game’s PC release rather than the original tunes, that’s speculation as well as right for the money.

Origins of Sonic arrived this week on modern console platforms and PC, featuring the first four classic games in the series and Knuckles. In addition to the modified soundtrack, new versions of the game have improvements like the drop dash from Sonic Mania and the ability to bring Tails and Knuckles to games where they weren’t originally played. While Sonic fans still have to go to YouTube to return the pop king’s contributions to Sonic’s legacy, the remaining games presented in this package should last until Sega decides the world needs another release.
