Photo Steps to Build this Modern Bird House
This plan is designed for 5 1/2″ wide x 1/2″ thick fence pickets, about $2 each.
Other materials such as a 1×6 can be used, but since the wood is thicker, it may change your result slightly. Adjust accordingly if you use different materials.
Use a miter saw or circular saw to cut the cedar fence picket as noted in the cut list below. Notice that I cut off the rough end and also have enough left for the second birdhouse.
Then I just nailed the front to the sides. If you have children doing the assembly, consider predrilling holes and glue them with a pound of nails or screws. Wood glue designed for oily wood and exterior applications is also recommended.
Next, it’s time to add the top and bottom – the back side is still open. Notice that the back is slightly larger – this is to add a “mod” feel to it and give you room to hang from a tree.
Now let’s put it back to ….
Just line the bottom and outer edges of the floor and roof…
Drill a hole to hang the tree house
And then add a front door with a slightly bigger one
The back can be used to hang from a tree.
Since this is cedar, no finishing is needed. The birds will appreciate that!
