Netflix officially announced their crackdown on password sharing in the US. The streaming platform details revealed how it affects viewers and how much it costs to keep “extra members” on Tuesday, May 23.
If you have a Standard plan that costs $15.49 per month, you can add one additional member outside your household for $7.99 more per month, while those at the Netflix Premium level can add up to two more member at the same price.
However, if you’re on either of the two cheapest Netflix plans — the Basic plan for $9.99 per month or the $6.99 per month Standard with Ads tier — then you have no choice. to add more members. The same goes for accounts paid by partners like Verizon or T-Mobile.
According to support page for the rollout, an “additional member” will have their own profile and password, paid for by the person who “invited” them to join. Additional members must activate their account in the same country as the account owner, and can only watch or download Netflix titles on one device at a time. They also cannot create additional profiles or log in as a Kids profile.
A “Netflix Home” is set based on where you watch Netflix on a TV and the IP address it uses. To reset that location, you can use the TV app or a device connected to the TV.

The streaming platform has been testing paid password sharing ever since summer last year and expanded those efforts to Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain in February.
