Netflix Sharing Password Crackdown Detailed, Cost to Purchase Extra Members Set

the Netflix sharing password crackdown officially launched in the US Today, the company unveiled new membership level options for those looking to share accounts.

Starting on Tuesday, the Netflix sharing password crackdown was launched across the United States. Starting Tuesday, users will be asked to set a home location on their devices (per THR), with non-household members being asked to transfer their profiles to a new Netflix subscription, or have the primary account holder add a non-household member to their subscription.

What are Netflix’s new rules for sharing passwords?

According to Netflix on a statement on their website, there are two options when people want to share a Netflix account with someone outside their household. The first is to transfer a profile to a new membership paid by the person.

The second is to purchase a non-household membership, which costs $7.99 per month. This will allow non-household members to use the account. For those on the Netflix Standard plan ($15.49 per month), users can add a non-member household to the plan for $7.99 per month.

For those looking to travel and keep their Netflix account, nothing has changed. Users can also take their accounts with them while on the go.

Users with a Netflix Premium package (which includes 4K streaming) can add up to two non-members to the household. However, they have to pay the $7.99 monthly fee twice. Netflix said in its statement that it will notify US users via email this coming Thursday.

on The Netflix support page, they say that an “additional member” is considered a person who is outside the Wi-Fi connection of the main home. According to the streamer, it will use things like IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity to determine if an account is part of what it calls a “Netflix Household.”

Although Netflix used to be good about password sharing, the company has clamped down on the practice. This is likely due to declining revenue and subscription numbers.
