New Trader Joe’s Opening in Williamsburg!
By: Cate Corcoran
Trader Joe’s is definitely coming to Williamsburg. The bright red sign is outside the building at 200 Kent Avenue, between North 3rd Street and Metropolitan Avenue. The interior was built, and they delivered, according to a sign in the lobby.
Rumors of opening dates online have been all over the place, with say Black Friday, November 30, December, and even January. Trader Joe’s website says the location is “coming soon.” Based on what we saw when we stopped recently, an opening of three weeks or more seems possible.
Lee (the company in question) took over another store in the building, and the other spaces were empty. The building has underground parking and, remarkably, on the second level.
Trader Joe’s signed a lease for the space back in 2015, according to a Crain’s story at the time. That was back before Whole Foods opened in Bedford. The grocer has two other locations in the borough, at Boerum Hill – where lines run around the block – and at City Point in Downtown Brooklyn. The anther location recently opened not far from Williamsburg in Long Island City.
The developer is Cornell Realty Management, who is active in the borough. They bought the property in 2016 for $ 33 million. Michael Even was the architect of record, and LIVWRK oversaw the design of the building.
