After the 2023 edition of the event, the organizers of the Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival in Florida confirmed the death of an attendee.
The victim has been identified as Steven Nguyen, 26, according to the local Baton Rouge ABC affiliate WBRZ News. The station now reports that the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office is planning an autopsy and launching an investigation into Nguyen’s death, which they attributed to an “apparent drowning.”
Taking to the festival’s verified Instagram account, Okeechobee organizers mourned Nguyen’s death.
“Out of respect for those affected by this tragedy, we are refraining from commenting prematurely,” the statement read. “We will continue to provide our full support to the authorities, who are determining the cause.”

Those close to Nguyen are now launching a GoFundMe campaign to support his family.
