Paul McCartney Almost Hit By Car Outside Abbey Road: Watch

Sir Paul McCartney was nearly knocked down by an impatient driver while trying to reenact the iconic photoshoot of The Beatles Abbey Road album cover outside the titular music studio in London.

In a clip from the new Abbey Road documentary If These Walls Could Sing and shares via the social accounts of the historic studio, The Beatles star tried to use the crosswalk outside the band’s former recording space in an effort to regain his place in the classic lineup – albeit with shoes, this time. However, it appears that in the intervening five decades since the original photo was taken, the patience of pedestrians hoping to recreate the Fab Four’s famous move has waned to the point that even Macca has to be wary where he was going.

The 80-year-old actress responded to near-oblivion with her characteristic whimsy, first with an exaggerated shudder as the car passed, then later by pretending to fall as she smiled at the camera. Watch the video below.

Although he eventually made it across unscathed, the connection between Paul McCartney and potential car accident was enough to reactivate believers in the long-dormant “Paul Is Dead” urban legend, one of the the biggest mystery in rock music. It alleges that Paul McCartney died in a car accident in 1966 and was later replaced by a lookalike named Billy Shears. Alas, conspiracy theorists have to accept that whoever has been claiming McCartney’s identity all these years actually made it across safely.

If These Walls Could Sing, directed by Paul’s daughter Mary McCartney, debuts on Disney+ in late 2022. It celebrates the recording studio’s 90th anniversary and features exclusive performance footage and interviews with fellow Beatle Ringo Starr, Elton John , Roger Waters, and others. Check out our five takeaways from the documentary HERE.

Looking ahead, McCartney is set to release a new photo book, 1964: Eyes of the Stormon June 13 with pre-orders continues. He’s new too named as one of the collaborators on Dolly Parton’s upcoming rock album with Stevie Nicks, Brandi Carlile, and others.
