Phoebe Waller-Bridge is set to appear in the highly anticipated future Indiana Jones 5a paper that, according to the recent profile of Empire Magazinewill be important, because she will play the daughter of Indiana Jones.
Waller-Bridge’s character, named Helena according to a recent Empire film profile, will enter the film as an important part of the story, though it’s unknown what exactly she’ll do. According to Waller-Bridge herself, Helena is “a mystery and a wonder,” while director James Mangold describes her as “slippery, seductive, the girl next door, a gfter.” Harrison Ford took the time to call him “a pioneer in ethical accounting.”
While Waller-Bridge can’t talk much about her character, she did describe how she landed the role, saying it all came from a conversation with producer Kathleen Kennedy, and ended with her quick reading of the script. and say yes.
“Kathy was in London and asked to have dinner with me, and it was casually discussed,” Waller-Bridge recalls. “I immediately ordered ten bottles of wine. Then this is the fastest I’ve ever read a script; I came out of a kind of haze afterwards. I can’t believe how much fun I had and how moved I was by this. And then I had a Zoom and yelled, ‘Yes!’ to all of them.”
Indiana Jones 5 will once again be led by Harrison Ford as he reprises one of his most iconic roles as the titular explorer. Joining her as the female lead is Emmy and Golden Globe winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The final installment will also feature the introduction of other franchise newcomers Antonio Banderas, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson, who have been cast in undisclosed roles.
The long-awaited film is directed by Oscar nominee James Mangold (Logan) from a new screenplay he co-wrote with Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, who collaborated on Ford v Ferrari. Mangold took over the director’s chair last year after Steven Spielberg stepped down from his directorial duties for the film. Despite his exit, he will still remain part of the film’s production as a producer.
Indiana Jones 5 will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, original franchise director Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel, with John Williams returning to score the film. It is scheduled to hit theaters on June 30, 2023.
