PS VR2 Launches With Over 20 Games


Sony is slowly releasing details about the PlayStation VR2, the next generation virtual reality headset. President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment and certified cat lover Jim Ryan recently revealed another nugget of information about the PS VR2 at a business briefing, saying it has more than 20 “major” games to launch.

“Today, there is a significant amount of money being spent partnering with independents and other third -party developers to get a sufficient pipeline of attractive VR content to launch the PlayStation VR2,” Ryan said.

According to Ryan’s presentation, more than 20 first and third party games will be available to launch on the platform, which is a significant number of titles. PS VR launched with 31 games in 2016 and there will be many more in the following months.

It’s not known what these launch games will be, as Sony has Only one title has been revealed for the headset so far – Horizon Call of the Mountain – and has not yet 100% confirmed that it will come out with the headset. PS VR2 games will be more compatible with other high-end virtual reality solutions, selling the dated Move controllers for a more traditional glove-like handle called the Sony Sense controller. The headset also has a near-4K resolution per eye along with HDR, which is a significant update to the PlayStation 4’s return to technology.

Sony still hides many of the details of the PS VR2 close to its chest. Currently it doesn’t have a price or release date, and it’s not yet known what the rest of its launch line will look like or if it will be backwards compatible with the original PS VR games. An analyst recently proposed a 2023 launch for the hardware, a delay from Sony’s previously announced plans. Games Beat reporter and renowned insider Jeff Grubb also said that he had heard that Sony was planning a “big” event for the headset soon, but Sony didn’t mean much.
