Redeemed Through the Apocalypse | Jim Daly

When one area of your life doesn’t turn out the way you hoped, you need an apocalypse.

The word “apocalypse” often brings to mind end-of-the-world scenarios. Earthquakes, collapsed buildings, destruction everywhere. But the Greek word for “apocalypse” does not mean “destruction.” It means “to reveal or reveal.”

The apocalypse is what will happen in the court of law. Everything is exposed and measured against the truth. There is no secret. Nothing is off limits because it’s embarrassing… or worse, accusation.

So when life doesn’t work out the way we expect, we need an apocalypse. We need truth to penetrate our souls deep enough that we can fix what is broken. If our marriage is in trouble, we need the truth to help us see the problem. If our children make bad choices, they need truth to give them wisdom. When our finances are in trouble, when our relationships are struggling, when our careers aren’t what we hoped for… only the truth can guide us in a better direction.

But there is a catch. We often don’t want the truth. We are afraid that an earthquake could shake our marriage or destroy a part of our world, so we choose to ignore our problems and stay suppressed. But that is not really a solution. Happiness that shines in trouble while promoting itself with lies is short-lived.

In order to have the life we dream of, we need the courage to face and respond to the truth. We need the apocalypse.
