Ricky Martin Joins Kristen Wiig in Mrs. Apple’s American Pie Series


After the new casting of Leslie Bibb, The deadline brings word that Latin superstar Ricky Martin has been tapped for a lead role in the upcoming comedy Apple TV + Mrs. American Pie. Martin stars opposite Kristen Wiig as a male protagonist named Robert. Joining him and Wiig was announced by former Oscar-winning cast members Alison Janney and Laura Dern, who are also set to act as executive.

It marks Martin’s first major American scripted series in four years since the release of the acclaimed miniseries. The Murder of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. In addition to reality singing competitions such as Britain’s Got Talent and Lip Sync Battle, his other TV credits include appearances on General Hospital and HAPPINESS.

Set during the powder keg era in the early 1970s, Mrs. American Pie directed by Oscar nominee Tate Taylor (The help) from a screenplay written by Abe Sylvia (Dead to me), who will serve as showrunner.

“A story about more impossible people, it follows Maxine Simmons (Wiig)’ s attempt to get her seat at America’s most exclusive table: Palm Beach high society, ”the synopsis reads. “As Maxine tries to cross that incomparable line between the rich and the left, the series asks the same questions that still baffle us today: ‘Who will get a seat at the table?’ ‘How do you get a seat at the table?’ ‘What will you sacrifice to get there?’ ”

Mrs. American Pie created by Oscar winner Laura Dern (Marriage Story) and Jayme Lemons through their acclaimed Jaywalker Pictures banner. Sylvia, Taylor, John Norris of Wyolah Entertainment, and Katie O’Connell Marsh of Boat Rocker are the producing executives.
